The ESM Topography Web-Service provides the slope angle and the related topographic category according to the Italian seismic code (NTC18). Moreover, it provides a value of the share-wave velocity profile in the upper 30 m (VS30), obtained through a correlation with the slope angle (Wald and Allen, 2007). The Italian territory is classified based on the automatic procedure described in Mascandola et al. (2021). In this case, we consider the TinItaly DEM (Tarquini et al., 2012) with a horizontal resolution of 10 m and a vertical accuracy between 0.8 and 6 m. The European zone is classified by applying the automatic procedure of Mascandola et al. (2021) to the SRTM DEM (90 m) of each state.
The ESM Topography Web-Service can be adopted for a specific seismic station or for any other site on the Italian and European territory (see Feature Notes).
